Are you an empathetic leader?
Being an empathetic leader can help your employees to feel valued and respected, which can play a massive role in how they feel in themselves and at work. This World Wellbeing Week, take a moment to ask yourself: am I an empathetic leader? To help, we have outlined 10 questions so you can identify how you can become a more empathetic leader.
Ask yourself these 10 questions:
- How much do I know about my team members as people, on a personal level?
- What do I know about the individual working styles and preferences of my colleagues?
- How often do I check-in with my colleagues and give them the time and space to talk about how they’re doing – how they are really doing?
- Do I lean-in or pull-back when someone in my team is upset, distressed or not themselves?
- How have I supported team members during difficult or challenging times, either personally or professionally?
- How accommodating am I when colleagues ask me for support, adjustments or accommodations?
- How do I use my leadership privilege to be an ally for colleagues from underrepresented or marginalised groups?
- How much do my team know about my personal challenges and struggles?
- How often do I demonstrate vulnerability and pave the way for others to do the same, with confidence?
- Would I like to work for me?
