Accountancy firm welcomes new recruits

A North East chartered accountancy firm has strengthened its practice with two new recruits.

Danny Stubbs from Redcar and Jamie Myers from Hutton Rudby have joined Stockton-on-Tees based Baines Jewitt.

Durham University graduate Danny has been appointed as an audit and accounts senior, whereas Jamie is working as a trainee accounting technician.

Prior to joining Baines Jewitt, Danny completed a degree in Economics and Management. After university he enjoyed travelling throughout South East Asia and Australia, as well as employment with a multinational professional services firm, where he completed an Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) qualification.

With several years working as an external auditor in local government and public sector departments, including councils, universities and police bodies, Danny is now looking forward to a new challenge through his role at Baines Jewitt.

“I found out about the job at Baines Jewitt via a recruitment agency.  What really attracted me to the firm, is that I can combine my audit, accounting, tax and advisory skills for the benefit of local businesses.  In particular, I’m looking forward to working with a range of clients, including those from the corporate world, sole traders and limited companies,” explained Danny.

Outside of work Danny follows his favourite football team, Middlesbrough FC.  He also enjoys hiking in the Lake District and running, including taking part in the Great North Run last year.

Whereas Danny has several years’ accountancy experience under his belt, Jamie is just starting out on the career ladder. Joining Baines Jewitt as a school leaver, Jamie successfully completed A Levels in Maths, Economics and Physics earlier this year.

As well as gaining valuable hands-on experience in his chosen career, Jamie is delighted to have secured his first professional job. He is already working towards an Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification, which will provide a solid foundation in finance administration and core accounting skills, as well as enable him to go on to study to be a chartered accountant at a later date.

“I decided against the direct university route, so I sent a speculative email enquiring about vacancies at Baines Jewitt. I was thrilled to be invited for an interview and offered a job. The role will provide lots of relevant first-hand experience, whilst being given the opportunity to gain recognised qualifications and progress my career,” explains Jamie.

“As a trainee within the firm, I’m gaining practical experience in the workplace by helping with accounts preparation as well as embarking on a professional training programme that includes additional study at a specialist North East training centre,” explains Jamie.

Keeping it in the family, Jamie is following in his father’s footsteps as his Dad also works in accountancy.

When not working or studying, Jamie enjoys playing tennis and watching football and is often at the Riverside Stadium cheering on his beloved Boro.

“We’re delighted to welcome another two high calibre members of the team, who will develop and grow with our company,” explains Don Adams, director, Baines Jewitt.

“We recognise the importance of looking to the future and moving the company forward. That means having highly skilled employees in place for the work we are doing now, whilst planning for the future of our firm.”
