GB Landlords to host large scale property event in Newcastle

A free event offering insight and advice for North East property professionals is taking place in Newcastle this month, following on from the success of last year’s event.

Taking place on Thursday 26th September at the Britannia Airport Hotel, the GB Landlords All Day Property Conference is one of the largest annual events outside of London for landlords and property agents. The event has sold out with over 230 registrations and has attracted 39 trade exhibitors including Howdens, Conway Christie, Great British Interiors, Verismart Inventories and Valuation Office Agency as well as most of the local Council PRS Teams from Sunderland, Newcastle, Durham Northumberland and North Tyneside, who are very keen to engage with the property sector.

The full day event, which is organised by GB Landlords, will provide property information, education and updates for those involved with, or interested in renting property, and this year is headline sponsored by Fleet Mortgages and The Mortgage Works, along with regular event sponsors, Robson Laidler, Sweeney Miller Law, Coversure Newcastle and Approved Mortgage Solutions.

GB Landlords have again attracted a number of high-profile speakers for the event, including Paul Shamplina, founder of Landlord Action and star of Channel 5’s ‘Nightmare Tenants, Slum Landlords’, who was keen to return again to speak this year and will be sharing his thoughts on how survive and thrive as a landlord and how to deal with the RRB.  Paul, an engaging speaker, regularly appears in the national press, radio and on television programmes including BBC Breakfast, War at the Door, Meet the landlords, Inside Out, The One Show, ITV’s Tenants From Hell and most news programmes as well as at many property events.

Other speakers include Christian Balshen, the Lettings Director at Rightmove, Suzy Herschman, the Resolution Lead at My Deposits and The PRS, Tanya Hodcroft, Head of Stakeholder Engagement at DWP and Juli Poulton, newly appointed Regional Engagement Executive from the NRLA (National Residential Landlords Association).  A late addition to the speakers is David McKenzie, an Economist from Aldermore Mortgages who will deliver an economy update.

Topics discussed will include an update of the changes in legislation expected from our newly elected government, market trends and information and guidance on being a Landlord and managing residential properties, as well as sessions covering other aspects of renting.

GB Landlords is a consortium of housing professionals from across the region, initially launched to bring together the North East landlords community through regular knowledge sharing events, with the aim of improving property standards and professionalism in the Private Rental Sector. Since its inception, the association has grown steadily and has expanded nationally to offer landlords across the country and in the capital, many of whom have properties in the North East, the same level of support. An inaugural London event took place in March of this year at the HSBC HQ in Canary Wharf.

Commenting on the event, local property professional Bruce Haagensen from GB Landlords said:

“We are excited to host yet another annual conference at the Britannia Airport Hotel, Newcastle, supporting landlords and property agents at what is a very uncertain time with the Renters Rights Bill being so widely covered in the media.  It is important for the private rented sector to have a voice, as well as engagement on their behalf with our local councils, with the aim of balancing safeguards for tenants’ interests and providing the right conditions to enable the sector to contribute fully to the provision of good quality, well managed housing.  Unfortunately, many landlords are selling up and we hope to encourage them to hang on in there, through a greater understanding of the changes ahead and to help the Councils with the unprecedented demand they are facing as the supply of housing generally is falling.  GB Landlords are very grateful to the speakers who appreciate the support we have in the North East and have travelled from London and all over the country to speak at our event and support our efforts.”
