Beamish Museum recruiting Chief Philanthropy Officer
Beamish, The Living Museum of the North is seeking to appoint a Chief Philanthropy Officer, a new role that will support the museum’s continuing development.
Beamish is the North East’s most visited attraction, welcoming 801k visitors last year, and the UK’s largest open air museum. The charity brings history to life as it preserves heritage for future generations, while supporting today’s communities including award-winning health and wellbeing, and education work.
The museum is looking forward to exciting times ahead, as it completes its Remaking Beamish project and looks to the future, with a growing reputation nationally and internationally.
The new Chief Philanthropy Officer will support this work, leading on engagement with a diverse range of corporate, charitable and high net worth partners to secure significant philanthropic giving.

The new Chief Philanthropy Officer will lead on increasing and diversifying funding streams, developing a new philanthropic giving strategy, while building on new and current relationships and partnerships, raising the profile and support for the museum.
“We’re really keen to hear from candidates who share our purpose and passion for the region, who have a strong network, and can inspire others and strengthen investor relationships to support the museum’s work.”
Beamish is a 350-acre open air museum in County Durham, with around 450 staff and 400 volunteers who bring to life the North East’s history in the 1820s, early 1900s, 1940s and the 1950s. The museum, which was founded in 1970, has around 2.5million objects and photographs in its collection, ranging from steam engines and sewing machines to entire buildings.
The museum is nearing completion of its Remaking Beamish project which includes a 1950s Town, 1950s Farm and expansion of the Georgian landscape, including overnight accommodation in self-catering cottages. Thanks to money raised by National Lottery players, the Remaking Beamish project was awarded £11.8million by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
