Matfen Hall Hotel Due to Reopen on April 7th After Multi-Million Pound Refurbishment

Matfen Hall Country Hotel, Spa and Golf Estate is set for reopening on April 7th. Having undergone significant refurbishment over the last 12 months, the Northumberland venue will be ready to welcome guests back to a vastly upgraded property. Bedrooms and public areas are undergoing renovation to an even higher standard, whilst the brand-new Cloisters Restaurant and Bar – built in the former internal courtyard, now enclosed by an incredible glass roof – will be added to improve on an already exquisite guest experience.

The current phase of renovation began in January 2022, with improvements to the Vault Bar and the creation of a new, state-of-the-art kitchen to support Matfen’s luxurious dining experiences. A guest lift has been installed in the Great Hall side of the hotel to improve accessibility, whilst an original fireplace has been opened up in the Sapphire Room, one of Matfen’s private dining areas, and The Orangery has become a dedicated tea lounge with Afternoon Tea prepared daily by new pastry chef Richard Winfield of Dreamworld Cakes, and teas provided by Newby.

“A few short months on from temporarily closing our doors at Matfen Hall to undertake the next phase of our magnificent refurbishments, we are very much looking forward to welcoming back some old friends and new to the estate” said James O’Donnell, Head of Commercial Development.

Matfen Hall has also recently announced that Laurent-Perrier will be the official supplier of Champagne at the estate. To celebrate this exciting partnership, each new April overnight booking will include a complimentary bottle from the Innovator in Champagne, making your next escape to our Northumberland paradise one to remember.

A new senior management team is in place, led by General Manager Nathan White, formerly of Hoar Cross Hall, and ably supported by Operations Manager Alessandro de Sclavis (global 5-star experience, including Trump Turnberry) and Rooms Division Manager, Shaun Rowlatt (The Farmhouse at Redcoats and The Grove).

This has been phase two of Matfen Hall’s grand renovations. During the 2020-2021 Winter Lockdown, the hotel’s Great Hall Luxury Rooms were upgraded, along with many other facilities, including the Great Hall and Emerald Restaurant.

This development fits alongside what is set to be an exciting time for North-East tourism, with £2.25m to be invested into establishing the region as a must-visit location.
