“The trouble is, you think you have time…”
This is a sentiment the team at Dragonfly Cancer Trust face every day, a charity working with hospitals and hospices to support young cancer patients with a life-threatening diagnosis. Their focus is on memory making, helping families to make the most of each moment they have left together.
Having spent almost two decades supporting young people during their final weeks and months, their team are well versed in the things in life that really matter. They have given grants for young patients to seize the moment when a “good day” comes along and they feel well enough to go enjoy the things they love most. They’ve helped families to create powerful keepsakes together and supported countless teenagers and young adults to tick items off their “Bucket List”.
So when it came to choosing their next team fundraising challenge, it seemed only fitting to pick a real “Bucket List” trip, a once in a lifetime opportunity for supporters to grab with both hands, seize the moment and create memories that will stay with them forever.
A unique Machu Picchu challenge seemed like the perfect fit. A team heading out to Peru, immersing themselves into traditional local culture by completing a hands-on community project in the Sacred Valley. Staying with families in a small village to improve local facilities, this project is a world away from the tourist hotspots and a platform for incredible memories in the making. Once acclimatised to the altitude, the team will stay off the beaten track and follow the lesser known Salkantay Trail, trekking and camping along a route ranging from cloud forest to lush jungle before arriving at the UNESCO World Heritage Site and lost city of the ancient Inca’s; Machu Picchu.
It goes without saying, this is an experience that will create life-long memories and be the source of story-telling for years to come. Most importantly, the team taking part will be playing a key role in helping Dragonfly Cancer Trust to reach even more young cancer patients across the UK, funding support for families and young couples when their time together is limited.
If you’re looking for your next adventure, this is it.
Dragonfly Cancer Trust will be limiting the number of people who can join the team, with registration closing in June 2024. This will give all participants a full year to reach their fundraising target before setting off on 13th June 2025, returning to the UK 11 days later with life experiences and unparalleled memories of moments that really matter.
