UKSE SUPPORTS YOUNGSTERS TO ‘DANCE 4 LIFE’
A £2000 community grant from UKSE, the Tata Steel business support subsidiary, is helping to give 90 children and young people from the region the chance to take part in an inspirational Dance 4 Life event.
Dance 4 Life is bringing internationally recognised choreographers and dancers to the region to lead a day of workshops and performances. Their combined experience includes creating choreography for Disney, reaching the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent and seeing their work toured worldwide.
Organised by award-winning Tees-based Nuvo Wellbeing the event will be held at Peterlee’s East Durham College on Tuesday April 14th.
Bethany Ainsley, a former professional dancer and founder of Nuvo Wellbeing, has already helped and inspired thousands of people of all ages and abilities and last year’s Dance 4 Life was a huge success.
“Nuvo Wellbeing’s aim is to improve health and wellbeing as well as encourage social inclusion through dance and fitness,” said Bethany. “Dance can do so much to develop new skills, encourage creativity, build confidence and create friendships. We hold weekly classes in local areas and have seen how it can help to create stronger communities and inspire the next generation of performers.
“We had a wonderful response to last year’s Dance 4 Life event. One young person told us that they didn’t think they would ever be able to do something like this, but it was the best thing they had ever done.”
Dance 4 Life relies on sponsors such as UKSE and individuals can also contribute a £10 ‘pay it forward’ ticket to support a young person from a low-income background.
“The help is invaluable,” said Bethany “and we are very grateful to UKSE for this generous grant from their Community Support Fund. We need to cover costs such as equipment as well as the professional choreographers and want to ensure that it is fully accessible to the children, young people and family members wanting to take part in the adult sessions.”
Peter Taylor, UKSE’s Business Development Manager, said: “We are very pleased that we’ve been able to support Dance 4 Life from our Community Support Fund and help to make the event affordable for so many people. It is giving young people a unique opportunity to learn from some of the best professional choreographers right here in the North East.”
